His Highness the Heir Apparent
Under the direction of His Highness the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the QNFSP was established with the objective of creating a sustainable Food Security road map for the state of the Qatar, by introducing structural reforms to address the problems that affect the sustainability of energy, water, agriculture and food supplies. His Highness assumed an important role in tackling such issues, which affect the sustainability of natural resources through promotion of sustainable practices and good governance.
His Highness received his education at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in 1998. He then joined the elite unit of the Special Forces in the Qatari Army leading to His Highness's appointment as Deputy Commander in Chief of the Qatari Armed Forces – a key figure for reform and improvement within the military.
On 5 August 2003, His Highness was appointed Heir Apparent of the State of Qatar ushering in a new era of innovation and leadership in the country’s developmental progress.
As President of the Qatar National Olympic Committee, His Highness was a strategic force in the success of the Doha Asian Games of 2006, and also in securing the hosting rights to the 2022 Fifa World Cup for the State of Qatar. His Highness has taken lead and made numerous reforms in Qatar's Development Planning, Education, Health, Investments, Information and Communication Technologies – all of which he is currently in charge.
It was His Highness who had the foresight to initiate a number of studies related to Qatar's Food Security prior to the price shocks of 2008. These studies were the forerunner which led the government to quickly respond by establishing the QNFSP in that same year.
