Food Processing increases the shelf-life of food, reduces raw food losses, and enables continuity of product availability. By reducing wastage and enhancing food storage potential, Food Processing increases a nation's Food Security. It also contributes to Food Safety through improved hygiene and product life monitoring.
The QNFSP is currently looking into ways of developing a Food Processing industry – or an "Agro-Industrial Park" – which will take advantage of the new infrastructure that is currently being built in Qatar to allow the country to sell its processed goods on the international market. In order to do so, Qatar will also need to abide by and implement international quality assurance mechanisms to produce high quality products, as well as expand its strategic food reserves and current storage facilities.
