Securing water for agriculture will be a challenging task. Taking into consideration Qatar’s lack of water resources, the QNFSP is planning to secure its agricultural water from desalination. Although desalination is an expensive option, groundwater extraction has to be discontinued and the aquifers need to be recharged with desalinated water. Such a strategy will allow the groundwater aquifers to act as reservoirs that will enhance Qatar’s water security. Furthermore, the QNFSP will take the necessary measures to optimize its irrigation and agricultural operations, as well as promote national water management.
